Can't AFL players tryout for a spot on NFL teams?

Once in the AFL you can try out for teams in the NFL right? I know CFL players tryout for NFL teams, but not sure about AFL. ........................................… NFL TEAMS DO NOT HOLD TRYOUTS FOR THE AVERAGE JOE, SO DON'T SAY THAT.
